The importance of a resilient community
Written by Anja Branch Manager of BigByte

We’ve known and been aware that outdated models and teaching approaches have needed a makeover for ages, but educational institutions have been some of the slowest and most resistant to change. However, COVID-19 has become a catalyst for educational institutions worldwide to search for innovative solutions in a relatively short period of time.
Over the years at BigByte we have been making steady progress in taking our curriculum online with the use of LMS (Learning Management System) that supports independent learning and strengthens the connection between the classroom and home.
But with the sudden switch to full time remote online learning we have had to build resilience toward rapid technological change (Hello Zoom!) and learn new skills in a relatively short period of time both at home and at school.
At BigByte Junior I have been incredibly impressed with how even young students and their families have embraced entirely new habits and developed a different awareness and responsibility toward community engagement and learning.
What I’ve also witnessed these past few weeks is a greater appreciation and understanding of the significance of the partnership and interconnectedness between schools and families. Educating our children requires a collective effort that depends on each other and working together. Ultimately, we’ve realized just how much we need each other and that’s what truly matters.
The pandemic is undoubtedly an opportunity to remind ourselves of the skills students need in this unpredictable world such as informed decision making, creative problem solving, and perhaps above all, adaptability.
To ensure those skills remain a priority for all students, resilience must be built into our educational systems - and homes - as well. This kind of flexible, community-driven and differentiated approach to learning will be essential in the success of contemporary classrooms of today and in the future.
Because no matter what, we will be here for you and your children.
